Interweave has a a great library of resources for knitting, crocheting, sewing, jewelry making and beading, quilting, weaving, spinning, drawing, and fine art. One example is this cool book on Japanese inspired knits or the Fabric Dyer's Dictionary for mixing your own hues. And, if you prefer to use natural plant dyes, check out my review of Natural Dyes and Home Dyeing . Finally, I'm kind of a nut on the subject of using found materials to make arts and crafts and have a resource page recommending six books on the subject. And, somehow this never comes to fruition. However, a little behind the times, I just finished reading the July/August issue and as usual it was jam-packed with great articles. Unlike some magazines, I read each one and learned something new. Here's just a few of the topics covered: Cheap and easy self-publishing through Amazon Making your own instructional videos Websites and online infringement Nipping artistic self-sabotage in the budYou can purchase a digital download of this and other back issues for $2.95 (newstand price is $5) by going to the Art Calendar website. The website also previews what's in the current September/October issue. One interesting article: 'Temporary Mentors: Rent an Advisor for 1 Hour + 1 Lunch'. Permalink | Comment | Email this Arts and Crafts Wainscoting Instructions - DIY! I found this interesting two-part article on how to design and build wainscoting for an arts and crafts home. If your area of arts or crafts business is decorative or functional, you might be interested in checking out these instructions. If you're a do-it-yourself homeowner, I recommend the instructions as well. It's easy to find and buy ready-made wainscoting, I've even found some online. However, following these instructions, you may prefer to just customize the wainscoting to your own home or customer's home. The articles has plenty of images to guide you along. However, you need to have some basic woodworking skills (and tools) prior to starting this type of project. Check out their upcoming classes in various arts and crafts disciplines. Arrowmont Move Cancelled originally appeared on About.com Arts / Crafts Business on Wednesday, August 25th, 2010 at 06:13:27. It's a ten-lesson covering small business audits: arts and crafts Schedule C or closely held corporations or S-Corporations. Also some 941 Info: If you collect and remit employer payroll tax for your arts or crafts business and you don't do it electronically, you'll probably be interested in Treasury Department proposed regulations to discontinue 941 paper coupons next year. Permalink | Comment | Email this Metalworking and Fabric Design with Gucci I've been a fan of combining metalwork and fabric since Robert Lee Morris collaborated with Donna Karan back in the late 1990s/early 2000s. In fact their work together is so interesting, if your business is in fashion crafts or metalworking and you haven't yet read Robert Lee Morris' book The Power of Jewelry, you should. Anyway, I was browsing through a recent fashion magazine and found some dress designs by Gucci combining silk fabric with forged metal pieces used in a belt-like (plaque) fashion. Stunning - however very expensive. But it's a idea worth developing for fashion crafters at a less expensive level. I found it to be not as compelling as last year, there are still some interesting works on exhibit. If a member of SNAG, you get this magazine as part of your membership. It is also available for purchase at select newstands and book stores. You can also order this and back editions of the magazine online at the SNAG website for the cover price of $8.50. The SNAG website also has a Resource page with craft-related links. Check it out! As a possible introduction for you to add them to your craft product line, the article includes easy instructions on how to make one. Along those same lines, here's a recent photo of Miley Cyrus wearing a wrist full of wrapped leather bracelets. If your arts or crafts business is in the fashion area (especially young adult), this really is a product you should consider adding to your line.
